Late Fall is a unique experience in New York City. The leaves are that special color all over Manhattan and there is the crisp hint of winter in the air. Well, when we visited the city for my birthday, it was certainly more than a hint! It was sooooo cold! 40 degrees!!?? I know, I’m a wussy but I got way to used to the sunny 90’s in Cali! Anyways, I make no secret of the fact that I love New York. After spending my last birthday in the amazing mountains of Dunton Colorado, I wanted to be surrounded by skyscrapers this year and could think of no other choice. The Mister was doubly excited because one of his very best friends (his best man at our wedding!) was going to be in town and they hadn’t seen each other in years!

We’ve been to New York many times before but because we’ve travelled for work most of the time, we’ve never been able to really be tourists in the city! We found out that our friends at The Four Seasons recently launched a brand new property in the Financial District and we jumped at the opportunity to make that our home for the week.

Before we talk about the amazing hotel and our experience, I feel the need to correct any preconceptions you might have about the location. I will admit that prior to staying there I felt that the Financial District might have been far too downtown to base ourselves. But I was so very wrong. With multiple uptown trains just a 2-5 minute walk, we had options! And we had some amazing restaurants, bars and attractions all within a 10 minute walk from the hotel! The area is really becoming a hotbed of shopping, dining and socializing with the Oculus on the next block and the amazing One World Observatory just 5 minutes away. Soho was 2 subway stops away!

And now onto this stunning new property. I simply love how The Four Seasons design team has gone about making the entire hotel look sophisticated and yet so warm and comfortable. That hospitality is perfectly encapsulated by their amazing staff . When we checked in, I was fighting a cold and the staff brought me some tea with honey and that cheered me up so much considering how bummed I was to be feeling under the weather right before my birthday! As you can see by the pics, it’s just so easy to make The Four Seasons Downtown look good. Painstaking attention to detail is the hallmark of every facet and the staff really want to make sure you’re enjoying your stay to the fullest!

All in all, this was one of my favorite experiences of the city. We got to see her in a totally different light and after a full day of exploring, got to return to the warm welcome of a new favorite property. I can’t speak highly enough of The Four Seasons Downtown and every member of staff who were so kind to us during our stay and we can’t wait to return !
