The MayFlower Grace

NYFW was a whirlwind and when it was over, we felt like we needed some time to unwind and decompress. Happily, The Mayflower Grace was just a short 2 hour drive from the city and it was the perfect antidote to the buzz we were coming down from!

The property is located in a quaint area of Connecticut called Washington, which is just a little bit north of Danbury and the drive from Manhattan was highlighted by classic American main street strips and beautiful green with hints of fall. But all that paled in comparison to the picturesque Mayflower Grace. Pulling into the driveway, you get a sense of history and it feels like you’re pulling up to someone’s amazing mansion. The hotel itself used to be a boys school and that part of it’s history greets you immediately when you see the cutest front door knob that is a little lower than usual to accommodate the adorable young men who used to rule the halls.

As you can see by the pictures, it was a total 180 from the loud and brash city. The Mayflower Grace is all about luxury and rejuvenation. Our suite was utterly jaw dropping! It was HUGE! And we totally heart that bed. We were operating on fumes in New York thanks to the adrenaline but the bed in our suite was like a cloud reassuring us into a good night’s sleep. It was wonderful but before we got our well deserved rest, we wanted to walk around the beautiful compound and see the famous Shakespeare gardens. We arrived a little later than we originally planned but it worked out great because the light as the sun is setting over the gardens is breathtaking. We decided to get a couple of drinks before an early dinner in the wicker patio overlooking the gardens and take it all in. We had an amazing dinner in the patio because the weather was just starting to feel a little more fall-ish but with a little bit of residual summer warmth. It was unforgivingly humid in the city and we were thankful for the respite.

The next day, we decided to take a dip in the pool after breakfast and ended up relaxing in the spa after. It was such a tranquil few hours and I really love all the white and how quiet it was. It’s a great place to read, take a nap, meditate or whatever! The floor to ceiling windows perfectly capture the view of the pond where deer are known to drink from. Alas, we didn’t get a chance to meet. We spent the rest of the day exploring and taking pictures because we were so energized from feeling so rested! Seriously guys, this amazing property was just what we needed!

Finally, I wanted to say a big thank you to the staff of The Mayflower Grace. Everyone was so nice and helpful! From Kevin who helped us with our bags and the car and had a great knowledge of the area, to the Food and Beverage manager Justine who checked in on us before dinner where we met Mustafa who made sure our meal was perfect. Kevin Saberon epitomized service with a smile during breakfast and our server for lunch, Scott grew up in the area and gave us so much insight into the town of Washington. And of course, thanks to General Manager Monica Neumann who we had the pleasure of meeting and talking with about the hotel.
